The objectives of the EWHS are to promote an awareness of the Ely-Winton area’s history – the people, the events, the places, and their importance; to provide assistance to those seeking information, of the area’s history or of the history of their families; to collect and preserve historical information, artifacts, and photographs; and to operate and maintain the Ely-Winton History Museum for the display of the area’s history.

The Minnesota Museum of Mining serves to educate visitors about the history of mining in Minnesota, and illustrates the life of ordinary people, mostly immigrant families, from the earliest years of European settlement and mining in Chisholm.

Mission: Dedicated to community enrichment through education, preservation, and celebration of the rich history and the heritage of the Tower-Soudan and Lake Vermilion community through people, artifacts and stories.
Vision: The Tower-Soudan Historical Society will exceed the expectation of the local community and visitors by promoting an understanding of the history of the Tower-Soudan and Lake Vermilion area by collecting, preserving, exhibiting, and interpreting that history and by advocating for broader understanding and education through presentation and celebration of our history to citizens and visitors.

Located alongside beautiful Olcott Park, our Heritage Museum consists of the former park superintendent’s residence, a Finnish log house and a depression-era tourist cabin. A permanent exhibit represents Bailey’s
Little Red Mill and Virginia & Rainy Lake lumber companies. Changing exhibits are found throughout the buildings. The museum also houses local archival and artifact collections. The facility is handicapped
accessible.
