VOLUNTEER DESCRIPTIONS
Below is a summary of volunteer positions. For most positions scheduling is flexible, but a regular schedule is appreciated. Volunteer opportunities vary depending on current projects, exhibits and events.
Administrative
Office volunteers provide administrative support to the Historical Society staff and assist patrons. Volunteers may also help with photocopying, mailings, filing, data entry, etc. Responsibilities vary with specific tasks assigned.
Curatorial
Curatorial volunteers fill out artifact catalog worksheets, assist in inventory projects, clean exhibits and artifacts, organize artifact documentation, perform data entry and assist with development of in-house exhibits. Volunteers must have attention to detail and a respect for the artifacts.
Exhibit
Exhibit volunteers assist in the development, research, design, fabrication, and installation of exhibits. They may also assist in cleaning artifacts and exhibits and performing light maintenance on exhibits and exhibit galleries. Volunteers must be able to perform somewhat physical work.
Gallery Attendant/Docent
Volunteers interested in sharing the history of our area will provide information to visitors. Volunteers become knowledgeable about Society exhibits and the Depot through various resources and training. Docents provide security for the exhibit and assist staff in keeping the exhibit rooms clean. Docents are needed seven days a week.
Membership Development
Membership Development volunteers provide support in developing new membership for the Society. They help with tasks such as assessing mailing lists, drafting fundraising letters and thank you letters, telephone solicitation, photocopying, faxing, soliciting volunteers and updating databases.
Special Events
Special Events volunteers provide support periodically for the Society. Tasks may include setting up and taking down tables, putting out chairs, decorating and posting signs, preparing food and beverages, monitoring registration tables, cleaning, etc. Responsibilities may vary with specific tasks assigned.
